The makers mark on the reverse is a stylised cross.
Immaculate and undamaged, this is a very superior chiro lamp.

Suspended from the arms of the chiro are Greek letters representing eternity, a feature not previously seen by us.
The periphery consists of dog tooth moulding which became a major feature of Romanesque architecture.
This lamp is not grave goods, but has been used, as witnessed by the discolouration at the spout.

The Central Asian rider naturalistically modelled with a stern expression, arms raised to hold the horses reins and seated with a saddle over a saddle cloth with a dog seated behind. The red pottery horse standing four square with the mane of originally organic material now gone, the head strongly modelled with bulging eyes, flaring nostrils and open mouth. A similar group was unearthed from the tomb of a Tang dynasty official and his wife on the outskirts of Xi'an in Shansi province.
